The Intergenerational Healing Approach

The Intergenerational Healing Approach™ (IHA), developed by Lea S. Denny, CEO, Founder, and Clinical Director of the HIR Wellness Institute, represents a transformative model for healing historical and intergenerational trauma, lateral violence, and oppression. Drawing from her pioneering work in trauma recovery, Denny's IHA goes beyond traditional family system healing, recognizing that the roots of intergenerational trauma are deeply embedded in systemic and environmental factors.

The IHA offers a profound shift in mental health care by training professionals to move past individual psychology and instead focus on relational health and community well-being as essential components of the healing process for survivors of violence and crimes. This approach encourages professionals to examine how they can contribute to collective healing, fostering a broader understanding of the dynamics of intergenerational trauma-informed practices.

Denny’s groundbreaking internship training program prepares the next generation of clinicians to engage with trauma in a holistic, collaborative way. Rather than solely addressing symptoms, students learn to work as part of a clinical team that emphasizes shared leadership, health justice, and community-based practices. Through the CAM Framework™, interns are guided in rethinking traditional mental health dynamics and are taught to view their role as a key component in the larger healing process, ensuring that they are equipped to support survivors in more meaningful and effective ways.

CAM-Informed
Intergrated & Interdisciplinary Teams

A CAM™-Informed approach expands your understanding of how you as the provider identify and implement treatment, interventions, and support relative (client) goals. As an interdisciplinary team, we bring together professionals from diverse disciplines to collaborate interdependently within a unified framework. This integrated approach allows us to create comprehensive care plans that harness the collective expertise of the team, ensuring the delivery of holistic and effective treatment. In contrast, multidisciplinary teams operate in parallel, each discipline working separately to develop their own care plans. At HIR Wellness Institute, we believe that true innovation and impact arise from synthesizing knowledge and practices across disciplines to create a coordinated and cohesive treatment model.
