Community Mental Health

Our approach is centered on mobilizing mental health providers to actively respond to the evolving needs of community care. By bringing together an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals and trained interns from diverse fields, we create an integrated, community-based network of mental health support. This team works within community spaces to deliver free, accessible mental health resources, screening tools, services, and advocacy—ensuring that help is available to children, youth, families, adults, and Elders alike.

We are committed to reimagining the service delivery of mental health care by providing real-time triage of mental health concerns, empowering individuals with immediate support and guidance. Our innovative model breaks down traditional barriers to access, making mental health care more responsive, flexible, and inclusive. Through this approach, we are not only addressing the immediate needs of the community but also laying the foundation for long-term healing and resilience by fostering a supportive environment where care is personalized, compassionate, and easily accessible.
This Is What’s Been Missing:
Milwaukee and Tribal communities continue to face alarming gaps in access to quality mental health care. According to the CDC, 1 in 5 U.S. adults live with a mental illness, and rates of depression, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders are significantly higher in Indigenous and underserved communities. In Wisconsin alone, more than 60% of adults with mental health conditions receive no treatment at all.

While Crisis Response Teams and Peer Specialists are critical, what’s missing is the “before, during, and after” care model—one that invests in healing as prevention, intervention, and post-crisis recovery. That’s where HIR’s Mobile Mental Health Clinics, Wellness Retreats, and Mental Health Workshops come in.

Our services go beyond crisis care. We offer:
-
On-the-ground mental health professionals trained in trauma-informed, culturally rooted frameworks
-
Interdisciplinary teams offering therapy, regulation, healing arts, advocacy, and wellness
-
Consistent, trusted presence in neighborhoods, schools, and community events
-
Support that builds community trust, relational wellness, and long-term resilience

This is a mindset shift: from reactive services to proactive healing, from short-term fixes to intergenerational and community wellness.
