DAUGHTERS OF TRADITION ARE GOING TO WASHINGTON D.C.

Experiences that matter

Since 2017, the Daughters of Tradition (DOT) group has been building sisterhood to buffer the impact and exposure to violence. This is a violence prevention, intervention, and restorative justice program.

This collective is an intergenerational and Indigenous group that consists of multiple ages: little sisters (4-6 years), Big Sisters (7-11 years), Mentors (12-13 years), and Ambassadors (14-18 years).

The DOT Sisters learn healing practices, self-advocacy, stewardship, and social justice skills to bring into their homes and communities.

Among the many cultural teachings that DOT Sisters learn and practice together are the Ojibwa Grandfather Seven-Sacred Teachings: Love, Respect, Humility, Honesty, Truth, Wisdom, and Courage. As part of their DOT program journey, they learn to demonstrate and embody these sacred teachings in all areas of their life.

As the next phase of their leadership development, the DOT mentors and ambassadors set their sights and goals to meet with national leaders, visionaries, and community organizers in Washington D.C for 2022!

We invite you to join them on their journey to fundraising their vision. Stay tuned for regular updates and news about their progress and plan to visit our nation's capital.

To learn more about their trip to D.C., please reach out to Jamie Kellicut, Community Engagement & Indigenous Affairs Director at JKellicut@HIRWellness.org, or help sponsor their vision by clicking the link below.
